When it comes to my coffee, you know I don’t mess around. I love coffee so much that I consider it to be my love language. There’s nothing that beats an early morning coffee kickstarting your day on the right foot. Especially when it comes to making my own on a daily basis with my new Espresso. And, you may be wondering, what is a Nespresso? And, is it worth the hefty price tag?
What is Nespresso?
Nespresso is a coffee company that makes coffee machines to produce espresso, drip, and pour-overs. It really is a beautiful thing — being able to have full control over your morning brew based on the pods you buy.
But, when it comes to the price tag, you may be wondering if it’s really worth it. I thought the same thing before I bought mine. And, to be honest, I only bought it because Nespresso was having a big Black Friday deal this last year. To put it into perspective, I bought the Vertuo Next Limited Edition in matte black for $100 vs $189 at its regular price.
Let’s weigh the pros and cons:
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Nespresso. It out-beats the regular instant coffee I used to make all the time. And, I was very lucky to have got mine at such a great discount. If it weren’t for the Black Friday sale, I don’t know if I actually would have bought it. But, here’s the list of things I love about this machine, and some things I struggle with.
Pro: I have control over my morning brew
You have a full range of coffee and espresso you can make. But, I guess this depends on the machine you get. I got this machine and I’m able to make double shots, single shots, full brews, and even pour-overs. I’m one to drink my coffee cold and at a large amount. I only buy the 7.77 oz coffee pods of all flavors.
Con: It’s really loud
To be honest, this machine is really, really loud. When I first got it, I was thinking it was broken. And, when I have people stay the night and go to make my morning brew in the early AM, they think I’m blending something in the kitchen. This is something that’s worth getting over for the amazing cup of coffee. But, if you’re living in close quarters with a loved one, they may hate you if you wake them up frequently making your coffee.
Pro: It saves me money on takeout coffee
Even though these pods can rack up a hefty bill, you really do save money if you’re frequenting your local coffee shop 2+ times a day. I normally go to Nespresso about once every 2 months to fill up on pods and it costs around ~$130. To be fair, when I do shop in-person, most of the time I get a few free pods. The last two times I went, I got 3-5 sleeves for free. So, I always shop in person.
Con: Pods can add up (if you like them strong)
Again, pods can get really expensive. But, I would normally go to the coffee shop way too many times a day to get a $5 americano. Most of the time, I would rather have my Nespresso brew over a take-out coffee. Depending on your preference, you could save money. If your not a mad coffee drinker, I wouldn’t start the new habit with this machine.
Pro: I waited to get mine at a discounted price
These machines do normally cost around $239 without tax. But, I would have never got this for that price. I would rather save up for a full Breville machine to make full-on espresso at home. But, on Black Friday, I got this machine for around $98. Without the discount, I wouldn’t have bought this machine. So, I would wait until there’s another major discount opportunity.
Con: My cleaning settings are a little wonky
I hate to say it, but my machine really malfunctions. I need to reach out to customer support, but I know I will have to wait for another machine to be shipped in the mail. About 2 months after I purchased this machine, it won’t pour coffee from time to time. I have cleaned it 3 times and it still will freak out and flash red for no reason. I’ve noticed keeping the top open after using it helps avoid this issue. But, it does happen roughly every 6-8 pours.
Pro: They’re great at being sustainable
They do support sustainability and recycling. Every time I pick up more pods, they give me one to two new pod recycling bags for free. Once I have a full bag filled up, I will take it to their store for them to recycle. This is something that I really wanted to consider when using pods considering the tremendous waste they can produce. Mad props to Nespresso’s team to focus on this when innovating this machine. LOVE.
Con: Doesn’t always have the most room for cups
I must say that the bottom doesn’t really have a lot of room for wasted cups. This is 100% a personal problem because I go through so much coffee on a given day. But, I do have to frequently empty the waste cup holder on the side every few days. The alternative to this would be creating more space for storage in the machine. And, I don’t know how much I would like that either.
Pro: You feel some type of way
You feel boujee — yah do (at least in my case). There is a sense of class when I’m able to wake up in the early morning to make an amazing cup of coffee, easily. Plus, I absolutely love the matte black design of my machine. It fits my aesthetic and warms my heart. I say it all the time — coffee is my love language. If you value these same aspects, then you more than likely will love it too.
My pros and cons to this machine could be different for you. These opinions are mine, but it may help you decide if you’d like to move forward with purchasing this espresso machine over another. And, I hope it does help you form a decision. Until next time gals!
