It’s now been a while since I moved to Austin, TX. Since I made the 31-hour one-way road trip to Texas, I’ve officially lived in two different places. The first place was a house with two other girls that I love so dearly, and the second was a two-bedroom with someone I knew back from Montana. And it’s now time to figure out my new place ~ cue this apartment hunting series. If you’re new here, you may be wondering who the heck I am and where I lived before. While I’ve been living in Austin for over a year now, this move is a big one *for me.* I’m finally taking the dive and getting a place by myself ~ a full one bedroom to myself. And I couldn’t be more excited.
Where I’m living now
I’m currently living in the south Austin area. I would say I’m about ~ 15 minutes from downtown without traffic. While south Austin is a good area, I’ve been wanting to move out east as it’s closer to my work. Oddly enough, I wasn’t specifically looking for a place out east, but the apartment that I got happened to be there (it must be that manifestation journaling doing its work).
What I was looking for
I had a few things I was looking out for. I hate to be picky, especially when I’m on a budget. But, I happened to find a place that has everything that I wanted with an amazing discount. Here are a few things that I really wanted:
- Walk-in closet
- Ice maker
- Nice living room area
- Bar hightops
- Balcony
- Washer and dryers in apartment
- Open workstations
- Pool
- Nice workout room
Not only did this apartment check off everything that I wanted, it also offered me more. For instance, a gated walking path, a park next door, and a nice patio area with two grills.
Tools I used (and LOVED)
Now, I wasn’t able to find this place randomly, I used an apartment hunter. Months leading up to the end of my lease, I started to follow Apartment Hunters and Smart City. These are Instagram accounts that specialize in apartment hunting (for amazing deals). In most cities, you’ll be able to find accounts for these.
At the end of the day, I ended up working with Smart City. Once you reach out to an apartment locator, they help you find your dream apartment. Once you sign with someone, they have additional resources to make your move as easy as possible. *Not sponsored,* but they made my life so much simpler when it came to apartment hunting.
My top choice (+ cue the moving content)
Luckily, I went with the one and only apartment I toured this time around. I knew that I loved this apartment before I saw it, and I had a really good feeling about it before even showing up for my tour. The only thing that I had to figure out was the different floor plans. As per usual, I went with a slightly bigger option.
As you can imagine, I’m more than excited to move into my new home. If you’re a lover of all things apartment living and home decor, be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel. In addition to my blog, I will be sharing my step-by-step moving process and apartment finds in video format.
