Aside from drinking enough water, eating multitudes of greens and antioxidants, and religiously taking collagen, a proper skincare routine is mandatory for having that dewy skin I always want. Especially when I was living in Montana having to fight the winter battle of dry patches from the negative degree forecast really put pressure on a proper routine.
For those of you that live in climates that gain mountains of snow in the wintertime – I feel for you, I REALLY feel for you.
My skin journey was pretty simple until my sophomore year of college.
Taking it wayyyy back, I didn’t care about a skincare routine. I was gifted with having what my Mah calls “baby skin” until I was a sophomore in college. Random bumps started appearing on my face – one of many side effects of getting the Nexplenon implant.
I really HAD to start caring for my skin – maybe this little hiccup was a good thing in some way. In high school and the early stages of my college experience, I would buy that cheap Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser from Target every couple of months. Thinking about it I can still smell the scent of it and picture Miranda Cosgrove on the TV screen splashing water on her perfect skin.
That thing was my holy grail, but most definitely wasn’t the best facial cleanser out there.
Once getting the Nexplenon, I experience multiple side effects resulting in the removal two months later. It is sad to look back and think how young I was to be able to make the decision of putting something like this in my body. Not being fully educated on the topic and making choices that seemed like the easiest fix rather than thinking about my decision long term.
Birth control without having to take a pill every day OR a painful recovery? Sign me up.
Don’t get me wrong, this form of birth control works for some people, but in my case – nobody could pay me enough to get it done again.
In the first few months, I had an increase of texture resulting in ance on my face, chest, and back. I started doing a deep dive into what NATURAL products work best for me and my skin. This is when I found Sarah’s Day on YouTube. She is a health and fitness YouTuber, Podcaster, and blogger with a tremendous impact on people’s lives.
Sarah taught me why you should nourish your body naturally from the inside out.
If you are a holistic health nut like me check out her YouTube channel, blog, and podcast – trust me you will get addicted.
I could write a whole different blog post on the importance of having a non-toxic skincare routine, but for the sake of time, these are my favorite products and how I use them.
Morning skincare –
5-6 a.m. alarm buzzes I proceed to the bathroom to get ready for my day starting with skincare. If it is the heat of summer and I am looking a little oily I wet my Vanity Planet Cleansing Brush, top it with the Acure Brightening Cleanser, and scrub for about 30 seconds to a minute before rinsing off and applying the Acure Brighten Day Cream. If my skin is on the dry side, I will go without washing and add another layer of my Primally Pure Base Cream.
After that dries I will proceed on to my makeup routine which consists of the I.T. Cosmetics CC+ Cream (another holy grail), topped with the Primally Pure Everything Spray or this Pixi by Petra Glow Mist.
Evening skincare –
By 7-9 p.m. I make my way upstairs to take a shower. I wash my face with the Primally Pure Cleansing Oil and wet my NanoTowel to wipe away all the nastyyy makeup smudges remaining. Oil cleansers have been a hot but conflicting topic recently, but I honestly couldn’t live without it. Cleansing with oil takes off all your makeup without all the tug and pull a normal makeup wipe offers.
I must say, the transition to an oil cleanser can be a process. It is introducing the absolute opposite of what you have been using practically your whole life – or at least in my case. It takes about a month for your skin to adjust, but the result is more than worth it!
Once I get out of the shower I will apply my Primallry Pure Base Cream for extra nourishment while I sleep. Sometimes I will add another spritz of the Primally Pure Everything Spray if I feel like it – but not always. Trust your gut on that one! 😉
As for face masks, the only one I have been using is the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask about every month. I really have to be careful when buying new masks as I am allergic to salicylic acid – the main ingredient for acne treating products. This refreshes my skin without any irritation, plus, I’ve had this for over a year now and have only used half the bottle – definitely worth the investment!
Aside from cleansing your skin accordingly, adding collagen to your everyday diet (I just put this in my coffee in the AM), nourishing your body properly, drinking enough water, and eating more greens can add that healthy glow!
After finding this routine, I haven’t changed a single thing. I love the dewiness this provides, and the look of well-nourished skin.
What is your holy grail skincare product?
Until tomorrow-
xoxo,
Kayla
