As y’all may know by now, I started a podcast this year called Life’s Awkward. If you’ve been here ever since I started, you most likely have heard this countless times (and it’s probably not going to stop). Throughout this process, I really started to see what worked and what didn’t work for me. For this post, I wanted to share my podcasting equipment, that I love, and that’s budget-friendly.
Honestly, you really don’t need that much to start a podcast. All you have to do is purchase a mic and pretty much everything else is optional. Keep on reading to see the few items I use and where to get it yourself.
Here’s the low-down:
As I said, you really don’t need that much. The only thing your really need is a microphone and obviously, a computer to work on. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how to start a podcast on a budget.
-
Microphone kits
Unfortunately, the set I purchased isn’t on Amazon anymore, but this one is pretty similar. I like to purchase a set to ensure everything fits and works accordingly. If you do choose to go down the route of ordering all separate parts, double-check the sizing of everything before you order it online.
-
Headphones:
Personally, I love having big headphones that attach directly to my computer. I look like a huge nerd, but they work great. I use these to edit my podcasts and hear guests loud and clear during interviews.
-
Microphone windscreen:
Depending on the microphone set you choose, you may, or may not, not need this. I ordered this for my round microphone to soften some of the words that ring hard into the mic. You could opt-out of this, but keep in mind, it could increase your sound quality.

Blue light glasses:
This is a cake topper. To be honest, it takes me a long time to edit a podcast, write the blog post, create all the marketing materials, and promote my work. And, all that time spent creating these projects is spent on a screen. I like to save my eyes as much as I can and wear blue light glasses. I ordered these off Amazon and have another pair from Eye Buy Direct. They all seem to be working great the last few years I’ve had them!
If you’re starting a podcast, first, congrats! I would love to hear more about it or any other way I could help you guys in the process. Feel free to DM me your questions if you have any!
