Starbucks hit it out of the park once again with their well-known stellar cold brew coffee.
Coffee. Coffee. COFFEEEEE.
If you know me, you know coffee is my favorite thing on earth. As sad as it is, I have about 3-4 cups of coffee a day (something I should be working on cutting down on this year).
Back in Montana, hot coffee was my favorite thing. Having it warm up my hands while taking on the cold spring, fall, and winters walking to class, leaving cold brew coffee only interesting for a few months of the year.
Well, that changed since moving to Austin. With the warm weather all year round, I barely have hot coffee. Since I have created my own recipe that I like better than the cold brew Starbucks coffee I used to order, I thought I would let you all in on my secret so you too can save a couple of pennies AND have your coffee at home in the comfort of your PJs.
From my fav at-home cold brew, hot coffee, and what I order when out and about, everything I use will be linked for all my fellow coffee lovers out there.
Cold Brew Starbucks Coffee – obsessed right now
- Heat up water on the stove
- Add about 1/2 inch of water in my cup with 4 scoops of my inulin (great for digestion)
- Add ice
- I do kindaaaaa cheat on this step. When I am feeling a little lazy, I will buy the Medium Roast Starbucks pre-made cold brew at the store. If I don’t have one of those on hand, I will make my own toddy (which is a cold brew for all y’all non-baristas out there). To do that, I add organic coffee grounds to a bagged filter, and fill my mason jar full of cold**** water and let it steep all night. If you aren’t wanting to buy the toddy maker, you can easily just brew your normal coffee hot, stick it in the fridge, and enjoy it in the morning. Keep in mind, brewing normal coffee, most the time, doesn’t have as strong of a caffeine level or as bold of a bite as toddy does.
- Add LOTS more ice
- I add my Hazelnut Almond Milk Creamer or regular Coconut Milk Creamer with a touch of coconut milk.
- Sprinkle Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice seasoning.
- Throw in a bendy straw
- Sip, slurp, sip away
Basic Hot Coffee – in case your chilly
- I will either pour myself a large coffee from my Keurig or throw a couple spoon fulls of my Bulletproof coffee grounds over hot water into my french press to steep for a few minutes, or dream about pulling a yummy double shot on a beautiful Nespresso machine.
- Add 4 scoops of my inulin
- Add a touch of my Hazelnut Almond Milk Creamer or regular Coconut Milk Creamer with a touch of coconut milk.
- Sprinkle Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice seasoning.
- Throw in a bendy straw (always protect your pearly whites)
- Sip, slurp, sip away
“Can I Have a ..” – what I order when I am out and about
- “…16 oz double (or triple depending on the day) americano (hot/cold) with a touch of coconut milk as a creamer”. If they don’t have coconut milk, or it has wayyyyyy to much sugar (yes I am THAT girl that will ask to see the ingredients), I will get a dash of almond milk, or drink it straight black instead.
- Sprinkle Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice seasoning. (I am also THAT girl that carries around this spice in my purse to add to anything and everything when I am out of my home for the day.
Oddly enough, I won’t get a cold brew when I am out and about. Since I have about 3-4 coffees a day, sometimes cold brew can make me feel like I am having a heart attack. When I make mine at home, I am about to control how much concentrate I give myself throughout the day. So unless I am feeling a little bold in the mornings, americanos are my jam.
